ASHULA Start up workshop |
ASian core program for High energy density science Using intense LAser photons |
Nov.29-30, 2011 |
|
Summary : |

|
The workshop has been held from Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1, 2011 at the ANA
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Kanazawa. There has been many participants from China,
India, and Korea. Dr Yongjoo Rhee (KAEA, Korea) and Prof Predhiman R. Kaw
(Institute of Plasma Research, India) have attended also as the key persons
of the two countries. |
|
As can be seen from the program and photo album, the workshop has been
a full of interesting topics in the high energy density physics. Prof Yohichi
Sakawa at the Osaka Univesity, Institute of Laser Engineering, has presented
their results on laboratory astrophysics. They have set up a collaboration
with Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics (IAPCM),
Peijin China using this ASHULA network already. They divided some research
tasks related to the laboratory astrophysics area. Prof Sakawa's main topic
was to show their recent result of collisionless shock waves created using
intense laser systems. Prof Anle Lei at the Shanghai Institute of Optics
and Fine Mechanics, China, has presented the collaborative research conducted
with us, Osaka University on the improved conversion efficiency of fast
electrons using ultra-intense laser pulse. |
|
Prof PK Kaw, the Institute of Plasma Research, India has given an interesting
and exciting theoretical approach using EMHD method. He has shown the significance
of soliton formation. Prof. R Kumar has presented unique magnetic field
measurement using their intense laser system of 20 TW. Their result has
shown a detailed structure of magnetic field at the back side of the plane
target irradiate with such a laser system for the first time. Dr Y Rhee,
Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Korea has presented their collaborative
works performed with European researchers on fast ignition related high
energy density physics. |
|
These are only several examples of research that may be open for further
collaboration in Asia.
During the discussions in this workshop, most of the scientists have shown
strong interest on the collaboration making use of their own characteristics.
There have been more than 10 young Japanese graduate students in the workshop.
Several of them have presented their research results. |
|
For example Mr Yohsuke Mishima has presented a topic on the laser plasma
interactions on nano-structured target. These result is actually led to
a new collaboration with TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research),
India. The researchers on both Japan and India agreed to disucss the details
at the forthcoming ASHULA India-Japan workshop planned in Jan. 2012 in
India. |
